1) How long have you been in the industry? How did you get started? Have you had fun in the industry?

I’ve been in this biz for over 4 years now, and yes it’s a TON of fun!!! I started with my boyfriend and it was really just by accident… we made a tape, and happened to find a buyer after the fact. That lead to another tape, and so on until we created mistysxxxgirls.com, and the Bring Your Own Bitch DVD series. We started out by shooting other real life couples, and that’s still my favorite thing to do. Now we shoot multiple video lines, and have added my fetish DVD line Misty Haze Says Fuck My Feet! To our DVD library. I’m having a blast, and I’m enjoying the opportunities I have to do new things!!!

2) Are you concerned with the rights of the adult industry to make and produce movies/web clips?

Of course I’m concerned it’s my business and my personal liberties at stake!!! I love my job, I enjoy what I’m doing, and the feedback I get from my fans tells me that my work is of value to them. I work in a legal, legitimate and safe business that thrives on a loyal and loving fan base. I am also exercising numerous constitutionally protected rights that we all hold and SHOULD exercise and hold dear, such as the right to free expression and the right to the pursuit of happiness. If you’re an adult, you DO have the right to decide how you spend your cash and your free time exercise it wisely and often!!!

3) Alot of the problem people have with the adult industry is the misconception that “pornographers” are always trying to lure under age people in and make “kiddy porn”.

Could you talk about what it is actually like on a set, as far as having ID, signing model releases, having a AIM test, etc? Have you seen or heard of anyone in the legitimate adult industry knowingly using minors in films or the web?

I have NEVER heard of a legitimate adult producer working with or expressing an interest in working with children. Current legislation requires that adult producers provide 2 forms of valid US Government issued ID’s proving that every model they shoot, male or female, is 18 years of age or older. That’s pretty cut and dry! Additionally, of course, we all sign a release providing identifying information. All professional adult performers do get tested for STD’s on a regular (monthly) basis, and it’s a practice I enforce with my talent just like the major producers in LA do (AIM). It’s a safe and smart industry and I enjoy the fact that most producers seem capable of self-regulating in the best interest of the health and safety of all the performers.

4) Do you ever get offended by shows like South Park or Family Guy? What do you think about shows/writing that offends people?

I am definitely not spending emotional energy being offended by TV shows LOL!!! I enjoy some TV to relax at the end of a long day, and I’m as liable to be laughing at South Park or the Simpsons as I am to be intrigued by the latest series on History, but I don’t take any of it too seriously. I know that some Americans live their lives by the dial, but I just chose to spend my time with more tangible pursuits LOL!!!

5) What do you think about some of the stuff that pushes the limit in the adult industry, stuff like Max Hardcore, Kink.com, and JM Productions?

I think that Max should have included more behind the scenes footage showing how much the talent enjoyed what they were doing LOL!!! But he knew he was pushing the line, and perhaps he should have thought more about what the industry as a whole was experiencing, rather than just how far he could push the envelope… But he did nothing wrong, and I don’t believe he committed a crime worthy of jail time or the revocation of property he suffered.

6) Have you ever been asked to do a scene or something on film that you thought was crazy and wondered if it was offensive/legal? What was it? Did you do the scene or the act anyway?

Well, I know this isn’t the fun answer, but I do my best to be well educated and aware of the legal ramifications of the field I work in… I generally know if I’m being asked to do something illegal, and no I’m not interested in breaking the law. I shoot real girls who enjoy sharing their sexuality with the world, and that’s what I enjoy doing too!!!

7) Why do you think America has such a fascination with sex and with regulating sex?

Ha!!! Why are ANY people fascinated with sex??? All humans are and I believe it’s a survival instinct for the species. But Americans tend to differ in that they smother sexual expression, and it’s especially bizarre in the eyes of the rest of the world because we smother sex and glorify violence. I believe it’s a flaw in our social makeup, and one I hope to be an exception to!

You are at the highest level of the adult industry. A lot of people in the industry have told me that most the people in the industry don’t care about protecting free speech, or really about anyone other than themselves and their money.

Do you think this is true? Do you think a lot of the people that are new to the industry care or have any concern about free speech and protecting the
right to make movies?

Well, I am flattered!!! I am CEO of my own production company, but I am also a performer and a director, so I believe I have some extra insight into the industry… Many of the current leaders and up-and-comers in the industry are just like me though, and began as “nobodies” who worked their way up, or started their own companies. I think those types of people in the industry DO care very much about our rights to pursue this business, and the value of the product that we offer society. I am sad to say that I don’t know if all of the new talent that walks in the door really recognizes or values what they do every day, though. I wish more of the industry did, and I think we all should~inside and out of the adult industry. This “industry” is part of a larger adult community that needs to wake up. There are organizations out there like the Free Speech Coalition that fight everyday to protect the freedoms that ALL OF US take for granted, but adult industry professionals especially need to be more active in support of their freedoms!

9) Is the “character” you play in your DVD’s anything like you in real life?

Hehehehe!!! I don’t play much of a “character” really! I do really love sex, and I love sharing my sex life with all of you. I don’t “fake” anything, and I don’t cast girls that do. When I’m on camera, my goal is to cum, make my partner cum and I know that will get my audience off too!

10) What is the craziest thing you have done/or scene you’ve been in on camera?

VAN SEX!!! LOL!!! My longtime fans will remember when we shot with Ophelia Wood and Bobby Long in the back of the Aerostar! It still makes me laugh to this day! I think some of the footage ended up on BYOB #3 or #4, but it will never do that day justice! There’s nothing like driving down the highway with a 6’ giant in the back of the van getting his dick sucked while a State Trooper was on my ass!!! No tinted windows. It was an adventurous day LOL!!!

11) Have you been involved with trying to change people’s opinions about the industry?

I can’t say as I actively pursue anything like that, no. I believe my work is a statement in itself, and you either like it or you don’t. If you don’t, then don’t buy my product. But if you love good quality reality porn with solid sex from pretty girls, then you should check me out!!!

12) Why do you think the industry is so caught up on the portrayal of young- a lot of DVD’s always say “18 & 19 years old” etc?

There’s plenty of “barely legal” footage in the market, but today’s hot trend is “MILFs” and even “Cougars.” The fact of the matter is that there’s somebody out there looking for EVERYTHING, and with the advent of the internet we can see just how varied everybody’s tastes really are. So it’s really no longer accurate to say that the industry is “caught up” with this one trend or that one trend… It would be easy to say that reality porn is the biggest thing right now, and a lot of people would agree with me, but then Pirates was a huge grosser last summer… The market is so big now, and the internet makes it so specific that there are always multiple trends at work, sometimes totally contradictory of each other.

Some recent events have gotten me to start thinking about the perceptions we, the people in the adult business, have about ourselves vs the perceptions the “mainstream” world has of us.

The mainstream world, news media and religious groups would like to have the general populous believe that we are all “damaged” in some way, hence why we work in the adult biz. After all, its much easier to generalize and point fingers at others, instead of looking inward at ones self to see their own flaws. A lot of times, these people tend to forget that we as humans, are flawed beings. No one is perfect. No one ever will be perfect. Its against our own human nature to be so.

Are porn people damaged? Of course we are but, no more then anyone else in the world. Its always easier to point out the damage in a small, concentrated group. Even though people in the porn biz number in a couple thousand, its an incredibly small group when compared to the rest of the world. So of course personality flaws or vices are going to be easier to see. It doesn’t take a genius to understand that.

Its much easier for news media to use us as a quick ratings boost when needed, then report on every day “boring” real world issues. Its much easier for religion to try and “save” us, rather then focus on saving their own followers who are abused by sexually frustrated priests, or even to help their own community who has fallen on hard economic times.

Over the past five years, I’ve seen all types of personalities come and go through the adult business. I’ve seen alcoholics, drug addicts, attention mongers, ego maniacs, sex addicts, pathological liars, bottom feeders and various emotionally stunted people in different stages of their flawed personalities. On the flip side, I’ve seen well adjusted people, who genuinely enjoy their job and live normal lives (though they are an exception to the rule most of the time). I’m sure if you took the average major city and put it under the microscope, you’d find just as many people (if not more) with the same exact issues.

Hell, I admit I am damaged goods. My major damage is, I’m emotionally detached. If I reach a certain point of getting close to someone, I completely shut down emotionally and detached myself. I guess its a fear of being hurt or letting that part of myself be touched by another person. In the past when I’ve been cheated on or hurt by someone, instead of exploding with emotion, I shut down and walked away.

I’m also stubborn and very set in my ways. I get into a routine and stress out when pulled from it.

Make no mistake, its not because I’m emotionally detached that I am in the porn business. I was damaged before I got into this business. I’ve been this way 15 years. At least I can say I know about my flaws and can admit to them.

The porn world is also a world of enablers. Alcohol and drugs are very easy to get for people of all ages in the business. Someone always knows a person, who can get anything the buyer wants. Its one of the biggest problems in our business. The mainstream world can and will point out that fact at every chance they get. The sad part is that they aren’t wrong. As I stated in a previous blog entry, if I had come into the adult business when I was in my 20’s, I would have fallen into the “porn lifestyle” as well. Most likely ended up a drug addict and a drunk, partying away all my money as so many in this business do.

While porn might seem to be a some sort of “wonderland”, again we are generally no different in our damage the the average person out there. Its just up to the mainstream world to get the idea and start concentrating inward on their own issues, instead of ours. Of course as it is with our very nature as people, that wont happen any time soon.

After all… we all are only human.

Ivan blogs about shooting and almost getting laid

Today we started a new series for Anabolic Digital, no real title yet just, I am booking the hottest chicks possible. Scary hot crazy cast! But still as my friends know, stupid drama engulfs me these days but as long as I hold a camera in my hand I am good. Day started rough but sitting back with Priya made it a fun time. Sometimes with big names you might get attitude so I wasn’t sure how Priya would be but yowzers … she was great.

We sat and talked about horror movies all day, at the office, on the ride to set, on location, even during the scene as we stopped for stills. The girl is amazingly hot and fun. To me it’s simple, I treat people with respect and make the set fun and laid back. So even if you do come with an attitude it’’s hard to throw it at a cuddly bear smiling at you while making funny noises during tease.

On the day I had my boys on set. We are all in struggle mode these days but when we all work together we get shit accomplished and have a great time doing it. I was asked to shoot this movie less our style and more um other style. So I was fine with it, just knew it would be a longer day. My brother was on the stills today and blasted off the entire 4GB card of them. I had my boy Chris Evans on set shooting for Porn Valley 91311 and helping out with lighting. Robert was there to make sure the web team got their video clips. The entire team minus Jesse was on hand. And we had a long yet fun day. This team would make any company a success with it’s work ethic and creativity.

So after Robert got his web clips, I proceeded to shoot some tease. Priya already saw my reel and new that even though I might take some time, the results are simply … well … Ivan. Also this hot ass woman said she would love to die in a movie, being the giant horror fan she is. I have some really fun stuff for her for my Whorrific Tales (Ho Hunters scene). To get the scene going I shot Priya doing the baby oil thing out by the pool. One issue came up, my sound effects. When I shoot teases I make swoosh and swishing sound effects as well as porno music …. Pawchickapowow!!! Priya couldn’t stop giggling during it and asked me to stop so should concentrate on touching herself. To me, these are the types of moments that make or break sets and scenes. She was loose and having fun because she was enjoying herself and was treated as a person and not a piece of meat. Her personality came through and even though she was apprehensive originally about ALL we had to do on video, she expressed her enjoyment of working on my set and was okay with it. Again to me that is a priceless I believe what my crew brings to the set is that and I also believe it is undervalued.

The scene went off without a hitch then we shot this new idea of popsickle thingy. It’s an interesting idea but just adds on to the time on set. Of course by this time Priya was smitten with me and my crew. The Ivan and the Ivanettes were in high gear today, entertaining the chickie and making sure the day was filled with laughter, joy and sunshine. At the end I gave Priya a stuffed toy Elephant (VIDEO below). Why elephant? In the morning during our conversation she mentioned her love of elephants so when I was buying supplies I saw this elephant staring at me, so I got him for her. She was jazzed about it and let her boobs touch mine during a friendly hug. Yup her famous boobs touched my famous boobs. Not many get to touch mine so she better treasure the moment.

After the shoot the day got more interesting. Steve for AdultFaces.com and I went to dinner to watch the Lakers/Nuggets game. While at dinner, how surreal is this? We see John Wooden!!! Yes thee John Wooden leaving the place while the game is still going on. So I quickly run to my truck and get him a copy of Sweet Cheeks #11. What’s weird is he WOODEN’T take it. Now I sit and wonder about my last two days of fun with Jayden Jaymes, Phoenix Marie and today’s lovely new friend Priya Rai. Plus my big fan the legendary John Wooden and the scanky cougar I should have brought here to my office for a fun webcam show. 2009 F.A.M.E. Awards finalists and host announced

She’s pretty — not beautiful — with alive, bright brown eyes, and she’s articulate with a bit of precociousness in the way she can drop the names of art-house filmmakers like French New Wave director Jean-Luc Godard into the conversation. If the subject didn’t turn to her profession, which it had to, then this might have been just another actress promoting her movie, in this case Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience.”

But Grey, you see, is an adult film star who has performed in more than 150 films — and that isn’t counting sex acts, which includes almost anything and everything you can (or maybe can’t) imagine. And she’s completely unapologetic about it.

“I think it’s a stereotype that people say, you influence people in negative ways. You make people think that this is what real sex and love is like,” Grey says. “No, it’s fantasy, and the adult industry is one of the few industries to tell you that up front.”

“She’s obviously fearless,” says Soderbergh about his star, who plays a high-priced escort who receives investment tips from her clients.

The director says he became interested in Grey after reading a 2006 article about her. She was only 18 and already making a media splash.

“The way she talked about herself, the reasons for getting into the adult film industry and her plan to navigate it didn’t seem typical to me. I never heard anybody like her talk about the business that way,” he says.

Soderbergh didn’t test Grey for the role. (“I obviously wanted somebody who in sexual situations was going to feel in control and in command because I think that’s hard to fake,” he says.) He just called her up and offered her the job. And while it seems like typecasting, she says, there are very real differences between her and her character.

“I think I’m much more artistically driven,” Grey says. “Chelsea’s end goal is always money. She’s quite a vain person. And she’s always looking to diversify in a business sense. In my case it’s in an artistic sense. Inevitably some of the things I do will help business, but my end goal isn’t necessarily money. Chelsea doesn’t confront her problems face to face. … Whereas, I understand if I make a mistake it’s my fault. If I choose to do something, I’m choosing to do it because I made a calculated decision.”

Sasha Grey is not her real name, of course. The Sacramento native originally wanted to call herself Anna Karina (the stage name of the Danish-born French film actress whose first husband was Godard). And while she has made her crossover debut in “GFE” and has a couple of other legitimate films in the offing, Grey has no intention of leaving the adult business. In fact, she has just formed her own production company and intends to direct.

“One of the other reasons to get into the adult business is to challenge it creatively,” Grey says. “I think people just kind of fall into this routine of here’s my camera, here’s a couch, here’s a girl, shoot it. There’s so much free products out there that no one is going to buy adult films anymore unless you make something different, unless you make something exciting and titillating. … I kind of want to take it back to the beginning of adult films, like a `Deep Throat.’ To put it simply, I want to do narrative-based adult films so you want to watch it from beginning to end and don’t want to fast-forward through to the sex.”

Soderbergh’s intrigued. “She’s got a lot of different interests and she’s ambitious and she has a lot of, obviously, unusual experiences; so it’s going to be interesting to see what she ends up making with all these different influences and experiences. It could be something unlike anything you’ve ever seen. She’s only 21,” Soderbergh says.

There is certainly a toughness and determination to her. Does she expect to do more crossover films? “Do I expect it? I don’t expect anything. I expect to work hard,” Grey says. Does she have an artistic side she doesn’t know how to express? She smiles and says, “No, I know how to express it.”

Grey says that while growing up she was made to feel ashamed about having sexual fantasies, that her mom wouldn’t talk about it then and still doesn’t today. And while feminists may not embrace her (nor does she seem to have much knowledge of the women’s movement), Grey decries what she sees as a sexual double standard.

“I think that women – especially young women – are made to feel so ashamed in general. But if you’re a guy it’s like, `Yeah, I banged that girl last night. It was so awesome’ … It’s unfair,” Grey says. “They have a man like Hugh Hefner who people glorify for selling sex, but you have a young woman doing it – it’s wrong. And I think it’s time in our society for women’s rights and women’s sexuality to no longer be just an underground thing. … It’s like I am woman, hear me roar.”

Tera Patrick in Rebel Ink Magazine Debut

She has a face and a body that helps any publication fly off the shelves. Enoble Media Group, the publishers of Urban Ink Magazine and Skin & Ink Magazine recognized Tera’s star power when they made her the cover model for the debut issue of their new magazine, Rebel Ink.

The issue, on stands now features Tera and husband Evan Seinfeld in a six-page layout complete with an extensive interview. In the interview Tera talks about everything from her early days in the adult film industry to how she and Evan have turned Tera Patrick into a household name.
